Our Work

Gian Devi Nandrajog Charitable Trust continues to spearhead a number of successful projects to support the critical needs of our community and help reduce the poverty gap that exists between them and the rest of India. Here is a snapshot of our current projects.

Empowerment of Women either Convicts or Undertrial

In 2015, the Trust undertook to empower women who are either convicted or undergoing trials in Ferozepur Central Jail. This initiative offers training and skill development of tailoring with a vision to making them financially independent in the future while keeping them motivated and engaged during the rehabilitation period. .. The Trust has hired a teacher to impart instructions. With ten sewing machines available, groups of 16 to 18 ladies are being trained in every session lasting approximately 6-8 months. Presently, the training of a third group is in progress.

Since December 2018, a total of 35 women convicts/undertrials have been trained. The jail authorities have been supporting the cause. In fact, jail authorities have also started giving cloth for making pajamas for the convicts. The Trust has spent approximately INR 24,000 on cloth and miscellaneous items in 2016-2017. The DCM Group of Schools, Ferozepur, plans to place orders for select items of children’s school uniforms.

The jail authorities have been very supportive and given cloth for stitching pajamas for jail convicts. An appreciation letter of our devotion and sincerity towards the cause has been received from them.

Clinics

Health is freedom from illness and is a key component in alleviating poverty. For many remote communities in India, swift access to health care within their communities is far from the national minimum standard. The Trust is committed to serving and supporting Health Care initiatives that support and promote a healthy body, mind and spirit.

Dental Camp

In November 2014, a dental camp was organized at the Gian Devi Vatika where elderly men and women went through dental check-ups. The activity was supported by Genesis Dental Research Centre who had sent a team of dentists. They examined poor people and gave appointments to people needing dental care. A total of approximately 75 elderly people were examined and many treated.

Eye Camp

An eye check-up camp was organized on May 16, 2016, with the help of Kalia Hospital located adjacent to the Gian Devi Vatika. A total of 40 people were examined at the Park and treated at the Hospital. In 2016 a team of doctors involving eye specialists, dentist, and medical doctors visited a middle school in the outskirts of Ferozepur city to provide medical check-up of children. Approximately 200 children were examined by the team. Trust undertook to organize Xrays and took on the expenses towards issuing of spectacles and medicines for the needy. Approximately Rs 20,000 has been budgeted for this initiative.
